city childcare
This project was an interior fit out of a 2 storey free standing building in Sydney’s CBD. To contrast with the granite and glass adult world outside the kindergarten was designed to have an ‘Alice In Wonderland’ effect on all who entered, clearly marking it as a child’s world. Having long held a passion for animation the theme was cartoonesque without referencing any cartoon specifically. Some doors were constructed at a child’s height and small details such as a mouse hole through a dividing wall provided much amusement for the children. The perspective of the reception area was deliberately played with; the wall’s stripes and floor tiles becoming smaller as they receded and the columns shaped to appear to be falling forward, all contributing to play with ones perception of space. The project went on to receive industry acclaim through awards and featured publication. Designed in collaboration with Scott Weston, photography by Jackie Dean
